Framed or Fugitive?

The crowd chattered with nervous excitement. Emmon knew he should flee. Something about this didn’t feel right. But curiosity killed more than just the cat.

So, he crept closer.

“Can you believe they were murdered?” said one mouse.

“Bodies torn apart, I heard,” added a rat.

“So much blood,” another mouse said.

“Who do they think did it?” asked an owl.

Puddles reflected the glow from the motel’s neon sign. Illuminated from above and below, Emmon felt like he had a spotlight on him. Perhaps he did.

“That’s the guy!”

Emmon looked to where the exclamation came from. The night manager from his motel stood with an outstretched arm, accusatory finger pointing straight

at Emmon.

“That’s the one I saw kill those two police officers!”

All eyes, mouse, rat, owl, and cat alike, looked at Emmon. Emmon panicked. His claws found purchase on the broken tarmac, and he scampered off. Cries of “Stop!” and “Police!” and “Get him!” followed him back down the alley.

Vive le Mouselution is one of the short stories published in the anthology book Minstrels in the Galaxy -

a collection of mind-bending science-fiction stories where mice revolt against their cat overlords, an old ice pilot shows he still has what it takes, a disabled hero proves they have worth outsight of a virtual reality world, a reimagining of Frankenstein, and many more!

All inspired by the songs of Jethro Tull.
