Serving My Country: A Diverse Military Career Across Various Commands

I retired in May 2023, after serving 24 years in the US Army and a (short) detour with the DEA.
Throughout my career, I held a good deal of leadership, staff, and training positions from the Platoon
to Joint Staff levels. Some highlights are:

Platoon Leader: I was fortunate enough to lead three separate Platoons during my time as a Lieutenant.

  • Mechanized Platoon Leader, Bravo Company, 1-9 Infantry Battalion in Camp Hovey, Republic of Korea

  • Mortar Platoon Leader, HHC, 1-9 Infantry Battalion in Camp Hovey, Republic of Korea

  • Airborne Infantry Platoon Leader/OPFOR Platoon Leader, Bravo Company, 1-509 th Infantry Regiment

  • Company Commander: My luck continued with two company commands.

  • HHC, 258 Rear Area Operations Cell, stationed at LSA Adder in Iraq

  • Bravo Troop, 3-108 th Cavalry Regiment

Battalion Commander: This was the most rewarding of all my opportunities. To lead a formation of 775 Soldiers is the proudest achievement of my career.

  • 2-121 Infantry Battalion

In between all of this cool stuff, I spent most of my time as a staff officer or an instructor. My staff jobs
included Executive Officer and Operations Officer at the Battalion and Brigade levels, and Plans Officer at the Brigade and Joint Staff levels. As an instructor, I worked at the Modern Army Combatives Program Fight House, Infantry Officer Basic Course Platoon trainer, and Senior Military Science Instructor, Auburn University ROTC, War Eagle!

I also got to attend a ton of military schools and courses. A few of the most memorable are:

  • Army War College

  • Ranger School

  • Airborne School

  • Air Assault School

  • Pathfinder School

  • Modern Army Combatives level 4

My experience at these places, particularly Ranger School, Basic Training, and Officer Candidate School, has provided me with a wealth of stories to tell. But I’ll save those for the newsletter.

If you’re curious about my time in the Army and want to know more, please shoot me an email and I’d be happy to regale you with my “war stories”.
